Expert Answer
The vibrations of a body under an external periodic force of frequency different than the natural frequency of the body.
Thus, the vibrating wire due to the vibrations of the vibrating tuning fork placed on the sonometer box are forced vibrations.
The paper rides flies off the wire is an example of resonance.
The paper rider flies off when the vibrating wire attains the same frequency as that of the vibrating tuning fork.
