In ADC,

AC2 = AD2 + DC2          ............Pythagorus's Theorem,

AC2 = AD2 + (BD+BC)2

AC2 = AD2 + BD2 + BC2 + 2BD BC

AC2 = (AD2 + BD2) + BC2 + 2BD BC       ...............(1)

Also in ADB,

AB2 = BD2 + AD2 .............Using this result in (1)

AC2 = AB2 + BC2 + 2BD BC
