A SPACECRAFT CONSUMES MORE FUEL IN GOING FROM THE EARTH TO THE MOON THAN IT TAKES FOR A RETURN TRIP. COMMENT ON THIS STATEMENT.

Expert Answer:

While the upward journey the spacescraft has to work against gravity of earth, which is far bigger than moon, and moon gravity help negligibly.
But while on the return journey, earth gravity helps to accelerate, than the moon's gravity that tries to hold the spacecraft back. Hence the spacecraft consumes less fuel.
