A proton beam is moving horizontally from south to north in a tube. The vertical component of earth's magnetic field is directed downwards. In which direction will the beam be deflected?

F = q(v x B)
Here, v is acting in the south to north i.e. in the+y direction. The vertical component of B is in downwards direction i.e. -z. Hence (v x B) will be in -x direction. so, the beam will get deflected towards west.
