Expert Answer:

Every human cell has 23 chromosomes and is haploid .

The zygote is formed when the male nucleus (23 chromosome) unites with the female nucleus(23 chromosome) and the zygote formed is diploid (contains 23 pairs of chromosome).

The zygote undergoes a series of mitotic cell division a process known as cleavage and results in haploid cells being formed and thus the number of chromosomes restored to 23 chromosomes
