A current through a horizontal power line flows in west to east direction. What is the direction of magnetic field at a point directly below it and at a point directly above it?

Expert Answer
Though the magnetic field is circular in nature its orientation (Clockwise or Anticlockwise) depends on the direction if the current. So the question makes perfect sense.
Dots represent current coming out of the plane and cross represent current going in the plane. Above it direction is North to South.below direction is South to North.
