A cistern has 2 inlets A and B which can fill it in 12 mins and 15 mins respectively.And outlet C can empty it in 10 mins.If all the pipes are open then how much time is required tofill the cistern?

Inlet A can fill the cistern in 12 minutes
Inlet B can fill the cistern in 15 minutes
Outlet C can empty the cistern in 10 minutes
Portion of the cistern filled in 1 minute by inlet A = 1/12
Portion of the cistern filled in 1 minute by inlet B = 1/15
Portion of the cistern emptied in 1 minute by outlet C = 1/10
Portion of the cistern filled/emptied by inlet A, inlet B and outlet C = 1/12 + 1/15 - 1/10 = (5+4-6)/60 = 3/60 = 1/20
Therefore, (1/20)th portion of the tank can be filled in 1 minute
Hence, the cistern can be filled in 20 minutes.
