a bullet of mass 10g travelling horizontally with a velocity of 150ms-1 strikes a stationary wooden block and comes to rest in 0.03sec. calculate the distance of penetration of he bullet into the block. also calculate the magnitude of the force exerted by the wooden block on the bullet

Expert Answer:
KE = (1/2) (10/1000) 1502 = 112.5 J.
Deceleration of the bullet, = initial velocity - final velocity / time = 150/0.03 = 5000 m/s2.
Force = Mass x Acceleration = (10/1000)(5000) = 50 N.
Distance = Work done/force = Energy/force = 112.5/50 = 2.25 m
