a) 2 identical charges are placed at 'r' distance. A charge 'q' is placed in between such that the 3 charges are at equilibrium. Find the position of 'q'. b) If 3 charges q1, q2, q3 are placed on the vertices of an equilateral triangle, find the net force acting on the centroid of the triangle.

Expert Answer
1) when the three charges are in equilibrium,
net forces=0
 
kQ2/r2  +kQq/(r-x)2   =kQq/x2
 
solving this equation one can find the position of the charge q.
