It is given that: I a1 + a2 I =3

Squaring both the sides,and using  |a1|=|a2|=1

We get:

2+2cosx=3

or x=60

Now let a1 = i

and a2 =i cos60 + j sin60

(a1  +  a2   ) · (2a1 + a2)=(3/2 i + j 3/2).(5/2 i + j 3/2)=15/4+3/4=18/4=4.5
