Taking 1/(x+y)=a and 1/(x-y)=b, the equations become:
22a+15b=5 and 55a+45b=14
Solving we get a=1/11 and b=1/5
=> x+y =11 ;x-y=5
Solving these two equations we get x=8 ;y=3
