Expert Answer

Let first pipe finish the work in x mins

SO, second pipe will take (x+3) mins

1 min work of both the pipes together = 3/10

1 min work of 1st pipe = 1/x

1 min work of 2nd pipe = 1/(x+3)

Hence, 1/x   +   1/(x+3)  =  3/10

Solving this, we get the quadratic equation 3x2-11x-30=0

This can be solved for x and hence the answer can be calculated.
