Plasma membrane froms the outer boundary of the cell. It is responsible for keeping the cell contents inside and maintaining the cell as a separate unit. If theplasma membrane ruptures, the inner contents of the cell, i.e. the cytoplasm and organelles will leak outside. So the identity of the cell will be lost.
