1/(x-1)(x-2) + 1/(x-2)(x-3) + 1/(x-3)(x-4) = 1/6

Expert Answer
we can split the terms as shown below
1/(x-1)(x-2) = 1/(x-2) - 1/(x-1)
1/(x-2)(x-3) = 1/(x-3) - 1/(x-2)
1/(x-3)(x-4) = 1/(x-4) - 1/(x-3)
now LHS = 1/(x-4)- 1/(x-1) = 3 /(x-1)(x-4) = 1/6
so x2 - 5x + 4 =18
x2 -5x -14 =0
(x-7) (x+2) =0
x=7 or x=-2
