Filtration

To separate the mixture of insoluble solid X from liquid component Y.

 

 

Technique

  • Place a wet folded filter paper in a funnel clamped above a beaker.
  • Pour the mixture X + Y carefully through it.

Separation of Compounds

  • Insoluble solid X remains on the filter paper. It is then dried and recovered.
  • Liquid component Y remains behind in the lower beaker.
