Expert Answer:

begin mathsize 16px style fraction numerator 1 over denominator 2 straight x end fraction plus fraction numerator 1 over denominator 3 straight y end fraction equals 2
fraction numerator 1 over denominator 3 straight x end fraction plus fraction numerator 1 over denominator 2 straight y end fraction equals 13 over 6
Put space 1 over straight x equals straight X comma space 1 over straight y equals straight Y end style
X/2 + Y/3 = 2 → 3X + 2Y = 12.....(i)
X/3 + Y/2 = 13/6 → 2X + 3Y = 13....(ii)
Adding (i) and (ii) we get X = 2
Subtracting (ii) from (i) we get Y = 3
1/x = 2 and 1/y = 3
x = 1/2 and y = 1/3
