Class X and Class XII results will be declared soon. For some students it's time for celebration and for some it's a disappointing time.
Though many students will begin their journey towards a successful career, some may wonder if their marks were totalled correctly. What if you are one of them? Can your marks be revaluated?
We give you the details on the process approved by the CBSE, on how to get your board examination paper re-totalled and revaluated. Does re-examination make sense?
REVALUATION
What It Means:
i. The paper is checked thoroughly to make sure that no answers are left unmarked. Sometimes this can mean the difference between being a topper and just another high-scorer. This option is available to all the candidates.
ii. The examiner checks whether the marks allotted to a particular question is totalled correctly or not. Usually, there are hardly any instances when this happens. But it's always worth a shot.
How It Works: Submit the application forms for verification of marks alongwith the fee of Rs 100 in cash (per subject) are to be submitted in your school or in the concerned regional offices. Make sure it reaches the respective regional office within 21 days of the declaration of results in case of the main exam. For a compartmental examination, the revaluation application must reach the respective regional office within 15 days of the declaration of the results.
For Delhi Candidates:
- Main Examination: Obtain application from your school or download it from the CBSE web site.
- Compartment Examination: Download the same from CBSE web site or deposit at the Syndicate Bank branch at PS 1-2, Institutional Area, Patparganj, Delhi – 92.

* In case, you are not able to secure an original copy of the form, you can get a photocopy, fill it in, and send.
For Candidates Outside Delhi:
* Forms can be collected from your schools or the concerned regional office.
A Word Of Caution: If you are in Class XII, don’t wait to start the admission process for further study. Sometimes, the revaluation takes several months and sending in your admission forms later could delay your admission to college. So, you may lose out on the college of your choice, as well!
Note: There is only one verification form for both revaluation and rechecking.
RE-EXAMINATION
What this means: You took the examination and the results are out, but you are not satisfied with your result, then re-examination is the option for you. Held in March-April, in the consequent year , it amounts to repeating the class. While in one hand it involves sacrificing a precious year, on the other, if you are confident about your second attempt then it might prove to be a fruitful decision.
Pros and Cons of Re-examination
Re-examination may prove beneficial for the Class X students, but for Cass XII, it may prove to be a negative step. This is because though many reputed colleges who seek admissions solely on merit basis, others see the fact that you have missed a year.
Words Of Wisdom: Before you decide to give the exam, again, carefully weigh your options. For instance, find out the admission procedure of your desired college beforehand, and check their policy with respect to those who miss a year.
