NEW DELHI: Huawei Telecommunications on Friday announced 'Maitree Scholarship Programme' for Indian under-graduate and post-graduate students who have secured admission to institutions of higher education in China.

As part of the Chinese telecom solutions provider's education initiative, the scholarships aim to build a platform for exchange of ideas between the two nations, and foster a closer understanding of each other's culture and society, a company statement said.

The programme will help promote scientific and academic aptitude and expand the career opportunities available to Indian students. Every year ten scholarships of up to $10,000 each will be awarded to selected students for pursuing academic courses in China. Each scholarship will cover the student's full tuition and living expenses for the duration of his or her study in China, it said.

Students interested in the programme can get detailed information by visiting its website, www.huaweischolarships.org.

Huawei's collaboration with the India China Economic and Cultural Council to offer the scholarships is the latest of the company's educational initiatives.
