Early life

C.S. Lewis went on to teach at Oxford University and became a renowned writer,writing about the Christian faith. His greatest work remains to be the fantasy series, 'The Chronicles of Narnia,' which has been been adapted into various films for the big and small screens.

His nonfiction books—such as “The Screwtape Letters,” in which devils discuss how to corrupt a well-meaning human—have broad appeal because they defend Christian belief by answering questions that a doubting public might be struggling with.

A Life of Crisis

Lewis's mother’s died when he was 9; being sent to a series of boarding schools that he detested; fighting and being wounded in World War I; living through the Great Depression and World War II; caring for his alcoholic brother; and, finally, the death of his wife, Joy.

A Visionary

In the 1940's, Lewis wrote about space and time travel in his 'Space Trilogy' series. His first book of the series 'Out of the Silent Planet' was a man travelling on a spacecraft to an unknown planet. This was written way before mankind made its first journey to space.
