Birth of Lord Ganesha.

Lord Shiva and Parvati live on the mountain Kailasa. Many times Shiva used to go to the forest for penance and stayed away for months. One day Goddess Parvati wanted to take a bath but there was no one else to look after the house. Goddess Parvati had an idea. She removed the sandal paste from her body and created a boy with it. She gave it life and made the boy her son and asked him to stand at the door and instructed him not to let anyone enter the house till she finishes her bath. Image Courtesy: www.hindukids.org

The race begins

Both of them agreed. Lord Kartikeya hopped on his peacock and flew off. Lord Ganesha rode a little rat. Kartikeya was sure that he would win the race because his peacock was much faster than the rat. Lord Ganesha sat down there thinking and suddenly he had a bright idea. He made Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati sit together and quickly went around them three times.
