The square root of 4 is 2 i.e. 2x2=4. But the square root of 4 can also be -2 i.e. -2x-2=4. Therefore, the square root of 4 can be ±2. Then why do we have to write square root of 4=2 but not -2 or ±2.

Square root of 4 is actually ±2.
