Please tell me the difference between speed & velolcity And why they are not same???

Speed is a scalar quantity; whereas velocity is a vector quantity.
Speed is the ratio of total distance travelled to total time taken, its gives only magnitude not the direction.
Velocity is the ratio of total displacement to total time taken, its gives the magnitude as well as direction.
