PLEASE EXPLAIN In defining the coulomb's law IS IT NECESSARY TO MENTION THE CHARGES ARE POINT CHARGES IF YES,WHY?

If the charges are not point then it means that there is a whole voume or surface of charges thus in that case the surface/ volume is divided in many parts having a very small size and the total force is then derieved by sum of all charges to one another as the distance between each charges are now different.
