When we are sick, our entire metabolism and body functions slow down. Even our digestive system would not be able to digest heavy or junk food. In addition, our body may not have the capacity to neutralize the artificial chemicals present in various foods like preservatives, color additions etc. All this may make us further sick. So it is advised to take home-made, light and healthy food when sick.
