why x1+x2=1?? please explain

x represents mole fraction and is defined as number of moles of a component expressed as a fractyion of total numbber of molesi.e.
x = number of moles of the componentĂ·Total number of moles of all component
As a convention we denote x1 for solvent part while x2 is for solute part.
The sum of number of moles of all components in a solution is always always equal to one. So we have x1 + x2 = 1
