WHY DOES COMPASS GET DEFLECTED WHEN IT IS BROUGHT NEAR TO A CURRENT CARRYING CODUCTOR?WHY CAN'T IT GET DEFLECTED IF THE CURRENT IS NOT FLOWING THROUGH THE CONDUCTOR???

A current carrying condcutor produces a magnetic field which deflectes the needle
