What's the following statement means "In computing any physical quantity , the units for derived quantities involved in the relationship are treated as though they where algebraic quantities till the desired units are obtained"

for finding the unit of any physical quantity, say acceleration which is a derived quantity,
we have to start with its formula:
acceleration=change in velocity/time
so  unit of acceleration=unit of velocity/unit of time
                                 =(m/s)/s=m/(sxs)=m/s2
 
this is how the derived units are obtained.
 
eg2: force=mass x acceleration
      unit of force=unit of mass x unit of acceleration
                       =kg x m/s2   =kg m/s2
