What weight of 10% nitric acid will be required to completely decompose 20g of pure marble?

When nitric acid reacts with pure marble (CaCO3) the following reaction takes place:

 CaCO3 + 2HNO3 ? Ca(NO3)2 + H2O + CO2

 100 gm of  CaCO3 is decomposed by  126 gm of HNO3.

20 gm of  CaCO3 is decomposed by  = (126/100) x 20 gm of HNO3

                                                    = 25.2 gm of HNO3

10% nitric acid means 10 gm nitric acid per 100 gm of solution.

Therefore, weight of 10% nitric acid  required to completely decompose 20g of pure marble = (100 / 10) x 25.2 gm  =252 gm
