What is the explanation for the stability of half filled and ful-filled orbitals?

This is based on a concept called Exchange Energy.
The idea is that electrons of parallel spins can exchange energy with each other, which reduces the overall energy and makes the system more stable. From that, it becomes obvious that half-filled and fully-filled orbitals have the maximum number of such exchanges possible. There is experimental proof for this.
