What is nature behind force between atoms and molecules which accounts for the existence of matter in three states i.e solids,liquids and gases?

In solids the particles are closed together so the intermolecular force is high.
In liquids the particles are closed together than gases so the intermolecular force is lower than solids.
In gases the particles are far apart so   the intermolecular force is low.
