Center of mass of an object is the point at which the total mass of the object is concentrated. If an object is balanced at this point, no net torque (due to the object itself) acts on the object and it remains in equilibrium.

This concept is useful in case of rotational motion as well as in those calculations where size of the object does not matter, only mass matters.
