what does a magnetized needle mean?what are the physical properties of a magnet?
A magnetized needle is a slender bar of magnetized steel which, when mounted so as to swing freely on a pivot, will point along the line of the magnetic meridian toward the magnetic poles, approximately north and south: it is the essential part of a magnetic compass
The feature of magnets are that the end points in the magnet act differently from each other. If one end attracts then the other end repels. Thus magnet end points are named as the poles. For every magnet there will be 2 poles so magnet is also called as dipole.
The magnet always align themselves in a North-South direction. The magnet poles are labeled correspondingly as North and South. The lines of force moves from the North pole to the South pole.
