sir in the chapter alchols phenols and ethers ..in the preparation of ethers for yeilding better results why should the alkyl halide be a primary and alkoxide be a teritiary

In the preparation of ethers halide should preferably be primary because secondary and tertiary halides may result in the formation of alkenes as a major product due to elimenation process.infact in casse of tertiary halidea only alkene is formed.
we use tertiary alkoxide instead because they also act as strong bases so if primary alkoxides are used ,major product will be alkene.
