Rohan has 10 coins consisting of nickels, dimes, and quarters. Seven of the coins are either dimes or quarters, and eight of the coins are either dimes or nickels. How many dimes does Rohan have?

Here is the solution:
  
let Dimes = D, Nickels = N and Quarters = Q
  
D+Q = 7............ (i)
D+N = 8............ (ii)
D+Q+N = 10............ (iii)
 
 
Subtituting the value of (i) in (iii)
7+N=10
N=3
 
Putting the value of N in (ii)
D=5
Hence there are 5 dimes.
