There are several advantages to reproduction by spore formation:

i) Spores are covered by a hard protective coat to withstand unfavorable environmental conditions such as high temperature and low humidity. They can survive for a long time till conditions become favourable, wherein they germinate and develop into new individuals.

ii) Spores provides great capacity for dispersal.

iii) Spores are less subject to animal predation than seeds because they contain almost no food reserve.

iv) Of all forms of progeny, spores require the least energy and materials to produce.

v) Large number of spores are produced at a time by the organism; this helps to increase the number of that species.
