Plane mirrors can only reflect images to the exact distance they are perceived. For example, if you're five feet away from the plane mirror, then the imaginary image will also be five feet "away" from the plane. A real image requires a redirection of light that can't be possible with a plane mirror.
real image requires the reflected light to converge at one point. This happens with curved mirrors.
