To understand a function, we can assume a function to be a machine, which gives an output for certain inputs. The inputs are called domain of functions and outputs are called co-domain of functions.
Suppose, M = A machine which give birth month of its input
NOw assume, Rahul is born in March, so if you input Rahul in machine M, so it givs output as 3 as the birth month is 3.
Similarly, if Ramesh was born in December, so the machine gives 12 as output.
Now think of inputs and outputs of this machine.
 
We can input only those things which have a birth month, so all such things are called domain of this function.
Now output, we now that whatever be the input is the output is always from {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,1,12}.
 
So te codomain of this function is {1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,1,12}.
