Significance of Mother's Day

 

Mother’s Day is an important day which is observed to highlight the sacrifices and contributions of mothers in our lives. No specific day is scheduled for celebrating Mother’s Day, but the day is mostly observed in the month of March or May. In most countries, it is celebrated on the second Sunday of May.

 

 

 

Julia Ward Howe was the first person to suggest the concept of Mother’s Day in 1872.

 

 

 

The trend of observing Mother’s Day first began in the United States in the 20th century.

 

 

 

In 1914, Anna Jarvis put in lot of efforts and campaigned for Mother’s Day to be celebrated on the second Sunday of May in the US. Anna also promoted Mother’s Day in other countries as well. Gradually, the other countries too joined in.

 

 

 

Mother’s Day is just a special day to express your love towards your mom. However, that does not mean that all other days in the year are not meant to do so. You definitely can!People celebrate Mother’s Day by gifting their mothers with flowers, chocolates and cards.

 
 
In India, various events are organised in malls to observe the day. Although it is not celebrated on a large level, youngsters are aware of the day.
