Maharashtra State Board to rechristen ‘fail’ to ‘Eligible for Re-Exam’ from March 2017

Students appearing for their SSC exams in March 2017 can heave a sigh of relief. The State Education Department has decided to make some changes to how mark sheets will be printed. Owing to the increasing rate of student suicides and failures during the board exams, the Department said that those who fail in more than three papers will be marked ‘Eligible for Re-Exam’. If a student fails in just two subjects, then the mark sheet will read ‘Promoted to Std XI with ATKT (Allowed To Keep Terms)’.

More than two lakh students fail every year in the state board examinations. From March 2017, students who manage to clear papers through ATKT will receive a combined new mark sheet with ‘Pass’ on it. If a student fails in more than three subjects in subsequent attempts, the mark sheet would bear ‘Eligible only for Skill Development Programme’ instead of ‘Fail’.
