JEE Main Application 2017: Things you need to know

Candidates aspiring to appear for the JEE Main 2017 examination have started filling their forms online on the JEE (Main) website. The Registration for JEE (Main) 2017 is from 01st Dec, 2016 to 31st Dec, 2016. We understand there is room for doubts due to anxiety and exam stress. Here are some frequently asked questions for you.

When is the JEE Main 2017 exam?

JEE Main 2017 offline exam will be held on 02 April 2017. The online exam will be held on 8 and 9 April 2017. 

What are the changes in the JEE pattern for 2017?

1. There shall be no weightage for the 12th class marks in calculating the ranks in the JEE (Main) examination.

2. A minimum 75% marks in the 12th class examination or a place in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class Board examination for the admission in the IITs/NITs/IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE (Advanced)/JEE(Main) ranks

3. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class examination.

Why is the AADAHR card mandatory during the application?

Your Aadhaar details ensure accuracy of the application details. It becomes your single identity proof. It also helps in ascertaining identities of the applicants at the examination centres in a convenient and hassle free manner.

I don’t have an AADHAR card. Where can I get help?

If you have not yet enrolled for Aadhaar but are entitled to obtain Aadhaar as per section 3 of Aadhaar Act, refer to the list of facilitation centres for AADAHR enrolment here.  CBSE has specially set up facilitation centres in each city of examination for the purpose of Aadhaar enrolment. The applicants can approach such facilitation centres who will not charge any amount from any applicant for Aadhaar enrolment.

AADHAR enrolment facility is not available at my facilitation centre.

Submit a request for Aadhaar enrolment. The facilitation centre will issue you a registration number. Enter registration number at the time of filling online application form for JEE (Main) 2017.

My state has joined the JEE (Main) system recently.

If you are from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Odisha and some other institutions, will be notified about the admission criteria by the concerned authorities.

I seek admission into the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.

The Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced) if you are aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programmes offered by the IITs.

What happens if I make a mistake while applying online?

There is no correction facility available for the online application.  However, candidates may be allowed to correct/modify some of the particular(s) of the application form ONLY 

i. Online
ii. With valid reason(s)
iii. After one week of closing date

See the website and newspaper regularly to know the exact date when the correction/ modification will be allowed online.

Do keep the following handy when applying online:

i. Valid mail ID and contact number
ii. Documents of qualifying examination
iii. Debit/credit card, e-challan for the payment process
iv. Scanned images of photograph, signature and thumb impression
v. A password to login for registration process

How do I pay the fees?

i. Credit card/debit card
ii. e-wallet (SBI Buddy/Paytm)
iii. e-challan generated during the online filling of the application form

In case of e-challan, the payment should be made in the Syndicate/Canara/ICICI/HDFC Bank in cash.

Can I use DD to make the payment?

Fee submitted by any other mode like money order, demand draft, IPO etc. will be rejected.

Are there additional processing fees for payments?

Credit Card: 1.20% of the examination fee plus the service tax as applicable
Debit Card: 0.75% + taxes for examination fee up to Rs.2000 and 1% + taxes for examination fee more than Rs.2000.
SBI Buddy: Rs.20/- per transaction plus the service tax as applicable
Paytm: 1.50% of the examination fee plus the service tax as applicable

We recommend you to retain a hard copy of the application acknowledgement page for future reference.
