All you Need to Know about IIT JEE Admission Counselling

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) conducts IIT JEE Admission Counselling for students who are qualified to get into various IITs and ISM Dhanbad. JoSAA is also authorised to grant seats to the JEE Advance students. Seats are allotted in three rounds keeping in mind the data provided by the participatory institutes and the preferences of students. Now let’s look at the admission procedure for students who have cracked IIT JEE Advance.

The procedure is quite straightforward and it’s a simple five-step process.

1. ONLINE REGISTRATION

After the scores of JEE Advance are out, you need to register at the JEE Advanced Counselling Online Portal (JCOP). This registration is done in order to generate a user ID and password; this is possible only if you provide your personal details based on your JEE admit card. Make sure that you note down the login details as you will need them soon.

2. PAYMENT

After the registration, you need to pay a non-refundable fee of Rs 1000/-. The payment can be done using a credit/debit card. You can make your choices only after paying this fee.

3. DOCUMENTS VERIFICATION

To confirm your registration, you will have to further send your documents through speed post to the JEE Chairman of the Zonal IIT (the IIT from which you received your admit card). In addition to these documents, you will have to fill an application form along with a recent colour photograph. Also, copies of the marksheets and certificates to be sent for verification should be attested by a gazetted officer. If you belong to the OBC, SC or ST category, then provide a duly attested photocopy of your caste certificate. Moreover, if you are a foreign national, then you will have to send an attested photocopy of your passport which contains your name and photograph.

4. ONLINE CHOICE FILLING

After the procedure above is done successfully, you have to choose the course in order of your preference. Log in to the JCOP with the user ID and password provided during registration. Remember that the choices you fill in the JCOP are final and will not be changed later, so make sure you don’t make any mistake. Course allocation is purely on the basis of your All India Rank in JEE Advance and the course you have opted for.

5. COURSE ALLOTMENT

This is the last step towards your admission. All you need to do is log in to the JCOP and find out which course has been allotted in your name. If you have been allotted a course, then you will have to pay a non-refundable registration fee of Rs 40,000/- (SC/ST- Rs 20,000/-) in order to accept the offer of admission. If you don’t pay the fee, then you will lose the seat allotted in your name and you wouldn’t be considered for a second round as well. After the payment, you will be given ‘provisional’ admission – you will be given either the seat allotted in your name or any one from your list. Basically, you may get lucky with your preferences if there are vacancies. The second round is based on the vacancy criterion. Stay updated with the changes which take place in IIT’s admission. Visit the JCOP every time you log on to your computer.

All the best for your admission to the top IITs of India. Hope the pain pays off!
